Florida Spring Training
There is one Spring Training baseball league in Florida. Aptly named for the Sunshine State, it’s called the Grapefruit League. The rightfully named Cactus League is in Arizona.
Hammond Stadium can accommodate 7,500 fans. In 2020, the Twins will celebrate their 30th year at the ballpark. It’s a beautiful open-air stadium inspired by Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. The CenturyLink Sports Complex has five playing fields and it houses the Twins Player Development Academy. There are also four softball fields. When Fort Myers baseball Spring Training is not in session, Hammond Stadium is the home of two minor league teams, the Gulf Coast League Twins and the Fort Myers Miracle. The stadium was named after Bill Hammond, the deputy county manager who helped get the complex built.
Hammond Stadium has a 360-degree boardwalk fans can use to explore the park. There is a beer garden on the left-field concourse you can enjoy before, after and during the game. There is also another option. The covered Bullpen Picnic Pavilion is a great spot for autographs and photo opportunities. You never know who you’ll meet there!
jetBlue Stadium debuted in 2012. It’s more affectionately known as Fenway South. It even has a manual scoreboard and Green Monster so Sox fans can feel right at home. You won’t see the iconic Citgo sign in the background or feel the buzz of big city life when you leave the stadium, as you would at Fenway Park, but jetBlue does have its own version of Yawkey Way—now called Jersey Street in Boston, its original name before it was changed in 1977.
The 11,000 seat stadium looks and feels a lot like Fenway Park in Boston. You can even sit on top of the Green Monster and watch your team play from a unique perspective. The state-of-the-art stadium also has six lighted practice fields. Sometimes they’re used by Florida High School Activities Association (FHSAA) State Championships, Lee County's youth sports programs and other amateur tournaments.

Fort Myers Spring Training History
Terry Park used to be one of the most popular Spring Training stadiums in the Grapefruit League. It was rumored to have a certain type of mojo, and if there’s anything we know to be true about America’s favorite pastime, it’s that it’s very superstitious.
Many of the teams who practiced at Terry Park had impressive World Series wins while they called it their Spring Training home. Its grandstands used to house thousands of baseball fans, and while they have since been demolished, Terry Park’s legacy will always remain. The Terry Family built the ballpark in the 1920s and it used to be the Spring Training home of the Philadelphia Athletics, which are now called the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cleveland Indians trained at Terry Park for two years from 1941 to 1942. A year later in 1943, a fire burned down most of the stadium. Then, about a decade later, after the park was rebuilt with concrete and steel, another Pennsylvania team came to town. The Pittsburgh Pirates called Fort Myers their Spring Training home from 1955 to 1968. They eventually moved their Spring Training hub to Bradenton. In 1969, the Kansas City Royals took over Terry Park and practiced there until 1987.
